Saraswati is depicted as a graceful white woman who represents purity and serenity. She is the Goddess of knowledge, education, the arts, and culture. She is depicted as a calm Goddess riding a swan or seated on a lotus blossom, with a crescent moon on her brow. Saraswati Puja is held to honorSaraswati, the Goddess of Learning. *Satyanarayan Puja is one of the most popular Pujas in Hindu religion. The Puja is performed by Hindus before or during any major occasion such as marriage, any major purchase, warming ceremony of houses and more. The Puja is preferably done in the evening a full moon day. But the Puja can be done any day and any hour too. The Satyanarayan Puja is done by all almost all communities. On the day of Puja, devotees usually undergo a fast and worship the Lord by reciting the Satyanarayan Katha.

Saturday is devoted to the fearful god Shani, who is one of the Navagrahas or nine planets. He is represented as a divinity carrying a bow and arrows and making a raven or a vulture. There are temples exclusively dedicated to god Shani and normally they are painted black. The idol also, is of black color, and sometimes of iron. The devotees who observe the Shanivar fast usually visit Shani Shrines and offer objects of black color like sesame oil, black clothes and black grams. Lord Shani is said to ward off adverse effects, illness, miseries and problems. Lord Shani is so dreaded thus many Hindus avoid long journeys on Saturday. The fast is observed by many to avoid adversities and misfortunes on Shanivar. It is also believed that those who have the blessings of Lord Hanuman are protected from the anger of Shani.

Shiv Maha Puran is one of the primary Purnanas that is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Shiva Purana consists of 100,000 verses of stories, cosmology, mythology all related to Lord Shiva. Recitation of Shiv Maha Puran is considered very meritorious and is one of the best ways to worship Lord Shiva. When and how the Purana came in to existence is still unknown and is believed to have divine beginnings. Shiv Maha Purana also consists of many other stories which are related to many other Gods and Goddesses.

Lord Shiva is a powerful god and is considered as a destroyer of the world. Siva Mahima stotra was first sung by Gandhrva named “Pushpadanta”. Pushpdanta stole flowers from a palatial garden of king Chitraratha. As a result, the king could not perform puja. Fed up with this act of Gandharva, The king placed Bilva Patras on the floor. Unaware of this, Pushpadant stepped on these holy Bilva Patras and became a victim of Lord Shiva’s anger and lost his divine power of being invisible. To pacify Lord Shiva, Pushpadanta sang stotras, which are known as Shiva Mahima stotras.
