The Griha Pravesh Puja is a traditional Hindu housewarming ceremony performed to purify the new home and invoke divine blessings for the inhabitants. The puja involves various rituals and offerings to appease the deities and ensure a positive and prosperous atmosphere in the new dwelling. Here is a detailed description of the Griha Pravesh Puja:

Preparation:

Choose an auspicious date and time for the Griha Pravesh ceremony. Consult with a priest or an astrologer for the most favorable muhurat (auspicious time) based on your family’s horoscope and the Vedic calendar.

Clean the entire house thoroughly to remove any negative energy or impurities. Decorate the house with flowers, rangoli (colorful patterns), and other traditional decorations.

Gather all the necessary puja items such as a deity idol or picture, incense sticks, ghee (clarified butter), camphor, sacred thread (moli or kalava), rice, turmeric, vermilion powder (kumkum), coconut, fruits, flowers, betel leaves, and sweets for offering.

The Puja Rituals:

Begin the Griha Pravesh Puja by taking a purifying bath and wearing clean, traditional attire.

Place the deity idol or picture in a clean and sacred area of the house, preferably in the prayer room or the northeast corner of the living room.

Light the incense sticks and offer them to the deity while chanting prayers or mantras to invoke the blessings of the divine.

Offer fresh flowers, fruits, and sweets to the deity as a symbol of gratitude and devotion. You can also offer betel leaves and nuts, symbolizing prosperity.

The priest or head of the family performs a Ganesh Puja to seek the blessings and removal of obstacles. Recite the Ganesh Mantra and perform aarti (circling a lit lamp) while singing devotional songs.

Perform a Navagraha Puja, which involves worshipping the nine celestial bodies (planets) to seek their favorable influence on the household.

The main ritual of Griha Pravesh involves carrying a lighted lamp (diya) and sprinkling holy water (Ganga jal) or Gangajal mixed with turmeric at the entrance of the house. This is done while reciting Vedic hymns and mantras to purify and protect the home.

The family members then enter the house carrying the deity idol or picture and offer prayers in each room while sprinkling holy water and rice to bless the space.

Finally, the Griha Pravesh Puja concludes with aarti and the distribution of prasad (blessed offering) to all the participants.
